Mission
Since the end of the war in 1975, Vietnam still has more than 200,000 soldiers missing and their remains have not been found and returned to their families. In order to bring some comfort to families whose loved ones died and disappeared during the war, the Vietnam Center and Archive of Texas Tech University established this project - The Missing Martyrs and The Legacies of War in Vietnam (VMIA and Legacies of War Project). This is a humanitarian project to support Vietnamese families in researching and locating the remains of Vietnamese soldiers who died in the war so their remains might be returned and buried in their hometowns or local martyr cemeteries. We are also identifying and returning precious legacy items captured during the war to include diaries, letters, and other personal materials and family heirlooms.
